It is located about 50 km from Varna, next to the town of Provadia. On the Kaleto plateau above the town of Provadia, a fortress with a rich history rises. Seal rings with an eagle found in it suggest that this is the coat of arms of the fortress, although the Byzantines called it Provaton, the Sheep Fortress.

In the 13th-14th centuries, the Ovech fortress established itself not only as a military, but also as a religious and administrative center of the region. It is accessible mainly along the eco-trail from the Provadia side and by a road following the eastern access to the fortress, which has been preserved in its original version with stairs carved into the rock.
