Medzhidi Tabiya is a fortress located south of Silistra, part of the Ottoman fortification system used during the Crimean War (1853–1856) and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. It is the best preserved of the six structures in the system.
This is one of the best preserved examples of the Ottoman fortification from the mid-19th century. Today it is the only structure remaining from the Silistra fortress. Its construction took place in the period 1840–1853 according to the plan of the Prussian officer Helmut von Moltke and under the leadership of Colonel Krah. It was built by forcibly gathered 300 Bulgarian craftsmen, who were then exiled to Anatolia so as not to betray the secret of the fortress.
